(Brasilia).- According to the bill, citizens who exceed the amount will be subject to fines and credit restrictions.
Bill 2843/23 limits the total amount that taxpayers can spend per year on sports betting. According to the text, currently being analysed by the Chamber of Deputies, the spending ceiling will be equivalent to 10% of the amount declared by the citizen in the previous year's Income Tax.
The proposal obliges financial institutions and sports betting companies to adopt mechanisms to control and monitor the amounts spent by individuals.
Citizens who exceed the limit will be subject to fines, credit restrictions and other measures provided for by law.
Author of the bill, deputy Ricardo Ayres (Republicanos-TO) says that the aim is to prevent over-indebtedness and lack of control over assets as a result of addiction to sports betting. "The aim is to balance individual freedom to place bets with the need to protect against excessive financial risks," he says.
Procedure
The bill will be analysed conclusively by the Committees on Consumer Protection; Finance and Taxation; and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship.
