(Brasilia).- Senator Marcos Rogério (PL-RO) has requested that the tax and banking secrecy of 97 of the 101 betting companies that operate regularly in the country be broken, with the approval of the Secretariat of Prizes and Gambling (SPA) of the Ministry of Finance.
The requests are generic and identical, with only the name of the company and the CNPJ changing from one to the other.
The deputy left out of the investigation request four companies: AF Tecnologia e Soluções Financeiras Ltda (Aposta365); B3T4 International Group Ltda (Bet4); Hilgardo Gaming Ltda (A247) and Stake Brazil Ltda (Stake).
Marcos Rogério also forgave the more than 5,000 companies operating irregularly in the country.
The 97 petitions, one for each company, were presented on 5 December to the Senate's Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on Gambling and are due to be analysed in the next session.
In practice, the senator asks the Financial Activities Control Board (COAF) to send the Commission Financial Intelligence Reports (IFR) with ‘consistent information’ on betting, for the period from 1 January 2020 to 10 December this year.
Marcos Rogério copies and pastes the same error in the 97 applications
With 14 pages each, the 97 applications have the same format, changing only the name and the CNPJ of the bet to be investigated. The texts even have the same typographical and Portuguese errors.
In the justification of the request, Marcos Rogério states that the objective of the requests is ‘to better understand the possible relational dynamics between all those involved, including for [sic] this commission to investigate irregularities and illegalities related to the improper exploitation of public services, money laundering, tax evasion, etc’.
Senator leaves out illegal gambling
None of the petitions presented by the senator focus on gambling sites operating illegally in Brazil. On 19 November, the Finance Ministry asked the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to block 5,200 sites operating illegally in the country.
Marcos Rogério also left out of the request companies that have circumvented the Ministry of Finance and accredited themselves exclusively through state lotteries.
