(Brasilia).- At a meeting on Wednesday 11 December, the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting (CPIMJAE) will hear testimonies from businessman Ede Vicente Ferreira Júnior and the president of the Federal District Football Federation, Daniel Vasconcelos.
Ede Ferreira was summoned to testify to clarify the facts that led him to be investigated in Operation VAR, launched by the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, which investigates suspicions of match-fixing in the Serie B of the Carioca Football Championship.
One of the matches under investigation was between the U-20 teams Nova Cidade and Belford Roxo, played on 5 June 2024. Ede Vicente Ferreira Junior was, at the time, the coach of Nova Cidade and also head of the company to which the management of the under-20 team was outsourced, the club's president, Jorge Luiz Pacheco Eloy, told the IPC. The request for the businessman's testimony was submitted by Senator Romário (PL-RJ), rapporteur of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI in its original Portuguese).
Daniel Vasconcelos was invited to testify by Senator Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ). In testimony before the ICC in October, businessman William Rogatto directly mentioned the name of the president of the Federal District Football Federation as one of those involved in schemes related to match-fixing and facilitation of illegal practices in football in Brasilia.
