(Brasilia).- Complaints about ‘facts that jeopardise the integrity and unpredictability of sporting events and results’ may be forwarded to the Ministry's Ombudsman.
Complaints about ‘facts that jeopardise the integrity and unpredictability of sporting events and results’ can be forwarded to the Ombudsman ‘s Office of the Ministry of Sport, according to an ordinance published by the Ministry on Tuesday (12) in the “Official Gazette of the Union” (DOU).
The aim of the ordinance is to ‘prevent and combat the manipulation of results’ in order to guarantee the integrity of sports betting.
According to a statement released by the Presidency's Secretariat for Social Communication, ‘whistleblowers who report suspicions of irregularities will be protected from any retaliation’. The National Secretariat for Sports Betting and the Economic Development of Sport will be in charge of the investigations.
The ordinance also provides for partnerships between the federal government and companies in the sector, as well as the ‘promotion of awareness-raising, education and training actions, including for athletes, coaches, referees, club professionals, athletes’ managers and people in positions of governance or administration in sport, with the aim of strengthening the fight against match-fixing’.
‘The development of educational plans can count on the participation of sports organisations and civil society,’ it says.
The Ministry of Sport will also be able to establish partnerships with specialised bodies in order to detect, ‘by means of monitoring systems, suspicious patterns and anomalous behaviour at sporting events’.
