Chamber's Finance and Tax Commission approves request to debate taxation of games in Brazil

(Brasilia).- Last Wednesday, March 20th, the Finance and Taxation Committee – CFT of the Chamber of Deputies approved the request of deputy Mário Negromonte Jr. (PP-BA) to hold a public hearing to discuss the taxation of gambling in Brazil.
Representatives from the Ministry of Finance and Caixa Econômica Federal and the companies Bet365, Betano, Pixbet, Sportting bets, VaideBet, MajoSports, Pingolpara, GaleraBet and the National Association of Games and Lotteries will be invited to participate to provide the necessary clarifications.
In the request, the parliamentarian states that the “sanction, with vetoes, by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Law 14,790/23 that taxes companies and bettors, it is necessary to maintain the discussion on the taxation of the exploitation of this type of service”.
The president of the CFT, deputy Mário Negromonte Jr. argued that, with Law 14,790, betting companies will start paying taxes from April. However, this does not correspond to reality, since these companies have not yet received authorization from the Ministry of Finance to begin their operations legally.
