(Santiago de Chile).- Vivien Villagrán, Chile´s Casino, commented in an interview that eight of the 10 casino permits renewed in a bidding process did not meet the amounts that the SCJ expected. These results are expected to promote regulatory changes in the law.
According to Vivien Villagrán, Chile's Supervisor of Casinos, it is a priority to take charge of a market that is currently regulated illegally.
"Therefore what we are looking for is to establish a regulation that generates a competitive market in this matter, that safeguards transparency and how it operates by establishing technical standards for its development," she says.
To take charge of a responsible gambling policy that protects minors, people who have problems with gambling and that in some way establishes gambling as a form of entertainment.
Vivien adds: "Also the prevention of money laundering and the financing of terrorism, which generates the tax revenue that any economic activity has to generate for the state. "
The Superintendent also comments: "The law has undergone a series of modifications, the last one in 2015. It regulates the transition of municipal casinos to the 19 95 regime and the other thing is that the economic bidding model is changed.
This means that we have finally awarded the municipal casinos in their totality.
At present we have Natales pending, and the bidding process has already begun and we expect to receive them in October. We have the Iquique Casino pending, which has been awarded but is in the process of construction, and we have the renewal of the permit for Puerto Varas. There is a space there to cover those places.
Additionally, we have to carry out the bidding process for the permits that are about to expire. Currently, the Superintendence is evaluating the bids submitted in Antofagasta and Talca. It has to generate the Castro and Coyhaique tenders, and see how we are doing with the Natales permitting.
This will allow us to have a perspective of what happened with the industry and what data and background we have in order to be able to look again at our law to be able to improve it in terms of competition and sustainability, and to allow the Superintendency to develop its supervisory and regulatory work in many ways.
