(Paris).- The French Senate moves to make Paris gaming clubs a permanent fixture after nearly nine years of temporary operation, signaling long-term support for the city’s poker and card gaming scene.
On 24 November, the French Senate approved a legal amendment that could grant permanent status to gaming clubs in Paris, officially ending the pilot program that began in February 2017.
For almost nine years, gaming clubs in the French capital operated on a temporary basis as part of a government experiment to assess their social and economic impact.
These clubs are allowed to offer poker and other card games, though roulette and slot machines remain prohibited.
The program, initially set to end in late 2024, was extended multiple times, with the most recent three-year extension agreed under the previous Bayrou government.
The Senate’s latest decision now opens the door for long-term growth and stability in Paris’s regulated gaming sector.
