(Dublin).- The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) recently welcomed senior representatives from the Gambling Regulators European Forum (GREF) to Dublin, strengthening collaboration on key challenges facing the European gambling sector.
Strengthening European Regulatory Cooperation
The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) hosted Anders Dorph, CEO of the Danish Gambling Regulator and Chair of GREF, alongside Michel Groothuizen, CEO of the Netherlands Gambling Authority, and their colleagues Nikita Selvig and Joske De Ligt. The meeting brought together leading figures from both organizations to discuss pressing issues in gambling regulation, including enforcement, transparency, and combating illegal operations.
This exchange strengthens the importance of cross-border cooperation in an industry that is increasingly international and digital. By sharing expertise and aligning strategies, regulators aim to ensure that gambling markets remain fair, safe, and well-supervised across Europe.
GRAI and GREF: Shared Goals in Regulation
GRAI, Ireland’s newly established statutory authority, is responsible for licensing and overseeing both online and land-based betting services. GREF, founded in 1989, serves as a platform for regulators from over 30 European countries to collaborate and exchange knowledge.
The relationship between GRAI and GREF reflects the need for unified approaches to regulation. With GRAI actively participating in GREF committees, both bodies are working to strengthen efforts to close information gaps and strengthen defenses against black-market activity. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to building a transparent and responsible gambling environment across Europe.
