Minister of Tourism prepares debate about casinos in Brazil

Members of Congress who are in favour of allowing gambling in the country say that the revenue could reach up to usd $4 billion a year and generate up to 650,000 direct and indirect jobs. Sabino, when he was a congressman, was already in favour of regulation.

If Bill 442 is approved in the Senate, casinos could be run by resorts or leisure complexes, with a series of pre-requisites such as restaurants, number of hotel rooms, among others.

The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), has already signalled that the regulation of sports betting, the famous bets, could open the way for the release of casinos in the country. There is still no scheduled date for the issue to be discussed.

Sabino and Lula

Celso Sabino's first month in charge of the portfolio has pleased President Lula; the minister has already received 81 congressmen.

The fact is that President Lula (PT) has really taken a liking to Sabino's work. Next Tuesday (22 August), the youngest member of the Ministries Esplanade will present his portfolio's work plans for the next two years to the Senate. According to interlocutors, the programme has passed Lula's approval. The president liked it.
