(Mississippi).- During the eighth week of the 2026 Regular Session, the Mississippi House of Representatives moved forward with major appropriation and revenue legislation, including a bill to regulate mobile sports betting statewide.

Mississippi House Advances Key Budget Bills and Mobile Sports Betting Framework

The 2026 Regular Session entered its eighth week with the Mississippi House of Representatives focusing on appropriation and revenue measures ahead of critical legislative deadlines.

Monday, February 23, marked the deadline for submitting requests to draft appropriation and revenue bills. On Wednesday, February 25, lawmakers faced the cutoff for original floor action on House-originated appropriation and revenue measures, followed by Thursday’s deadline for reconsideration and final passage. After meeting these benchmarks, the House transmitted its approved legislation to the Mississippi Senate for further review.

Among the most notable measures approved was House Bill 4074, which establishes the Mississippi Mobile Sports Wagering Act. The proposal creates a regulatory framework for mobile sports betting across the state, setting the stage for potential expansion of Mississippi’s gaming market into the digital space.

Lawmakers also passed House Bill 4069, introducing the Mississippi Severe Winter Storm of 2026 Electric Utility Customer Relief and Electric Utility System Restoration Act. The legislation aims to address the financial and infrastructure impacts caused by recent severe winter weather events.

In addition, the House approved House Bill 4065, known as the Mississippi School Resource Officers School Safety (MS ROSS) Act. The measure allocates funding to local law enforcement agencies to strengthen school safety initiatives statewide.

With these actions, the House continues to shape Mississippi’s fiscal policy and regulatory landscape as the 2026 session progresses.
