(Nevada).- Democratic Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada announced plans Friday to propose legislation that would amend a gambling-related tax provision in President Trump's budget.

Nevada’s legislator Dina Titus Targets Gambling Rollback in High-Profile Legislative Package

Democratic Nevada Rep. Dina Titus said Friday she plans to introduce a bill to fix a provision in President Donald Trump’s budget that affects gambling tax deductions. Part of the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” which the president signed into law Friday, changes how much bettors can deduct in losses from their taxes. As written, the new tax code will allow betters to deduct 90% of their loses against 100% of their gains. Previous law called for a 100-to-100 deduction.

“On Monday I’m introducing the FAIR BET Act, the Fair Accounting for Income Realized from Betting Earnings Taxation Act, to permanently restore the 100% loss deduction from gambling winnings,” Titus posted on X. “I welcome all other members to join this common sense fix.”

Speaking on 8 News Now’s sister cable network NewsNation, Titus said the move in the Big Beautiful Bill Act pushes gaming toward the black market.

“The black market doesn’t pay taxes, isn’t regulated, doesn’t help with problem gaming, so it’s bad for the industry as well as for the player,” Titus said.

Derek Stevens, the owner of the Las Vegas casino Circa, thanked Titus after her announcement, adding Congress should also raise the threshold for slot winnings. Winnings under $1,200 are not taxed. Nevadans in Congress have previously tried to raise that amount.

In a statement before the bill’s passage, representatives with the American Gaming Association said they “will work closely with Congress in the coming months to address the changes to wagering deduction losses and further modernize the tax code.”
