(Sweden).-New actions focused on enhancing communication among key stakeholders in Sweden's battle against match-fixing will be implemented.

New Measures to Tackle Match-Fixing in Sweden

In July, new measures will come into force in Sweden to combat match-fixing. These measures focus on communication between key actors in the fight against this issue. The Swedish gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, will be required to share information on suspected match-fixing cases on a common platform. This platform will be established by the regulator and the rules will apply from July 1st.

Sweden's Minister for Financial Markets, Niklas Wykman, at a joint press conference with Spelinspektionen's Director General, Camilla Rosenberg, said: "Match-fixing fattens the gangs while, among other things, harming youth sports. Athletes should not be pawns in the activities of organized crime. To fight crime and protect sports, it is important to stop match-fixing."

Spelinspektionen will have to share details of suspected match-fixing with sports federations and betting companies. The Swedish government said in a press release: "Through expanded opportunities to share information, an overall picture of concrete suspicions can be created based on a compilation of vague suspicions by individual actors. Therefore, it is of great importance that these actors can exchange information with each other."
