(Lima).- The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, enacted last Friday the Law that regulates the online games and sports betting, with the aim that the State collects taxes through this activity.

Peru enacted the law that regulates online sports betting and gaming

"The Executive and Congress have established a regulatory framework so that these operations are controlled in an integral manner, paying taxes as it happens in countries such as Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and a large part of the United States and Europe," said the president after the promulgation of the norm in Government Palace.

Pedro Castillo explained that the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism will be the administrative authority at a national level that will regulate, authorize, supervise and sanction the exploitation of online sports betting and games.

"For the first time, Peru is creating a special tax on internet gaming and sports betting of 12%, which will generate an annual collection for the State of S/ 156 million," added the president. According to the norm, of the amount collected by taxes there will be 40% that will be allocated to tourism development, 20% to promote mental health and serve the affected population and 20% to the Public Treasury.

“This is a law that will benefit the country, because on the one hand it will allow the State to have more resources to meet its obligations in economic and social matters, which will result in better living conditions, and on the other hand because it represents an important step in the formalization of activities that until today are operated without any type of control”, explained the head of state.
