(Lima) .- Eduardo Sevilla, director of the Mincetur General Directorate of Casino Games and Slots (DGJCMT-Mincetur), assured that his portfolio sees it necessary to work on improving Law 27153, which regulates the gaming sector.
During his presentation at the Peru Gaming Show 2023 (PGS 2023), an event that brings together public authorities and representatives of the national private sector in the gaming industry, Seville stressed that the law has existed since 1999.
"Next July 9 marks the 24th anniversary of the promulgation of Law 27153. It is time to update it," said the official at the event.
For this, he called the businessmen of the sector for a joint work on the improvement of the norm. "We call on the unions to seek to update the law to reduce the number of procedures necessary for the businessman, now in a post-covid moment, and not continue with an outdated vision of the issue," he said.
Ongoing mass enforcement
Seville also approved his participation in PGS to report that in July the DGJCMT-Mincetur carried out the largest destruction of illegal slot machines in the last decade.
According to the official, there are 533 teams. “They are machines aimed at minors, therefore illegal, and others that are in remote places, in rural areas. Thanks to citizen participation, through email, the same citizen or businessman informs the authority so that it fulfills his role, ”he explained in this regard.
The director of Mincetur also specified that between 2006 – the year the DGJCMT was founded – and 2022, they have carried out 80,481 inspections, seizing 6,777 slot machines.
In addition, Seville highlights that Lima represents 54.5% of the entire universe of slot machines. However, regarding hotels, only 12 provide this type of service in the capital. In provinces, there are 48.
