(Brasilia).- On Thursday (15), the Federal District's Procon ordered the removal, within 24 hours, of three adverts dealing with casino activity on the South Bus Terminal "Eixo" in Brasilia.
The decision is based on the fact that offering and gambling advertising, such as casinos, is illegal in the country and constitutes a criminal offence.
According to the General Director at Procon, Marcelo Nascimento, the three advertisements also disrespect the Consumer Defence Code.
"It is a basic consumer right to be protected against misleading and abusive advertising, against unfair commercial methods that end up forcing the consumer to make a decision without correct knowledge of the type of product or service being advertised," explains Marcelo.
The removal must be carried out by the companies responsible for the adverts, under penalty of a fine. These include Bet77, the sponsor of the adverts, which has no representation in Brazil; SCA Mídia; and Estrutura Painéis.
The latter two are responsible for broadcasting the adverts. All three are printed on billboards at the end of the South Bus Terminal Eixo. Procon-DF's decision is precautionary and the companies can appeal.
