Puerto Rico: the legislature rejects regulations of the Gaming Commission

(Puerto Rico).- The Gaming Commission has a term of 60 days to approve the Regulations for the Issuance, Management and Inspection of Gaming Machine Licenses.

The legislature approved the approval of the Concurrent Resolution of the Senate to reject the regulation presented by the Gaming Commission.
The legislative piece states that after the evaluation of the regulation, and according to the interpretation of the legislative body, it does not comply with the regulatory framework established in Law 11 of August 22, 1933, as amended.
The Gaming Commission has a term of 60 days to approve a Regulation that establishes the procedure for the granting of licenses authorized by law. This Regulation must be evaluated by the Legislature to guarantee its total and faithful compliance with the statute prior to its approval, within a term of 45 days from the notification.
The measure, authored by the president of the Senate of Puerto Rico, José Luis Dalmau Santiago, had 21 votes in favor, 4 against and one abstained when it was approved in said body, while in the House of Representatives it was approved with 37 votes in favor and 11 votes against.
Prior to its approval, the former chamber president for the New Progressive Party (PNP), José Aponte Hernández, spent a turn speaking out against it. Meanwhile, in the Senate, the PNP delegation cast an explanatory vote in favor, and the senator for the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP), María de Lourdes Santiago Negrón, cast an explanatory vote against.
