Regulators Unite to Crack Down on Illegal Online Gambling Across Europe

Regulators from Austria, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal, and Spain have issued a joint statement urging stronger action against illegal online gambling. With its borderless nature and rapid technological growth, illegal gambling poses serious risks to public health, consumer protection, and the integrity of regulated markets.

Authorities warn that unauthorised operators increasingly target European consumers through digital channels, including social media, video platforms, and affiliate networks, putting minors and vulnerable individuals at risk.

To combat these threats, regulators are committed to:

Sharing information on illegal operators across jurisdictions.

Urging digital platforms and social media networks to strengthen controls and block advertising from unauthorised gambling operators.

Exchanging best practices to identify, investigate, and sanction illegal gambling activity effectively.

This coordinated effort reinforces Europe’s commitment to maintaining a safe and fair gambling market while protecting citizens from the dangers of illegal online gambling
