(Serbia).- New Serbian Democracy MPs Vaso Obradović and Milica Rondović have introduced legislative amendments aimed at reducing the number of gambling venues to protect the social environment, a move facing pushback from MP Vuković.
Restrictions on Betting Shops Proposed
New Serbian Democracy (NSD) MPs Vaso Obradović i Milica Rondović proposed these amendments to the law, explaining that this restriction is necessary to improve the social environment and prevent negative impacts, as it would ensure a medium-term reduction in the number of places for organizing games of chance.
A similar solution regarding distance restrictions was also requested by the Parents' Association. Distance restrictions between these facilities exist in most neighboring countries and EU member states.
Minister of Finance opposes to Proposed Restrictions
Minister of Finance Novica Vuković expressed that MPs should not vote for amendments to the Law on Games of Chance that would introduce a minimum distance of 80 meters between gambling facilities, as this would prevent the opening of new betting shops and gambling facilities.
This opinion was accepted by the Government at a session two days ago, but it does not obligate MPs to vote.
