(Mexico City).- The mexican President revealed plans to update the Casino Law to strengthen regulation, protect young people, and ensure transparency across the industry.
During her morning press conference at the National Palace, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the Ministry of the Interior (SEGOB), together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, is conducting a comprehensive review of the gambling sector, including both land-based casinos and online betting platforms.
When asked about misleading advertising used by some online betting sites, such as the 777 platform, Sheinbaum explained that the federal government is working on an update to the Casino Law to regulate new forms of online gambling that were not covered by previous legislation.
The President emphasized that the review aims to protect young people from content that promotes easy winnings or encourages compulsive gambling, while also ensuring tax compliance from companies operating in Mexico.
“The update to the law seeks to ensure that these activities are carried out within a framework of transparency, legality, and social responsibility, preventing them from becoming spaces for tax evasion or risks for young people,” Sheinbaum concluded.
