(Stockholm).- The Riksdag has voted in favour of abolishing gambling in casinos as a result of the type of licence issued by the state.
Since the licence for state gambling is the only form of licence covering gambling in casinos, the proposal means that no actor will be able to obtain a licence enabling gambling at casinos.
According to the proposal, the Swedish Gambling Authority will to a greater extent also be able to receive information about businesses carrying on gambling activities and about their customers in order to facilitate the Authority’s supervision of money laundering in connection with gambling activities.
The amendment to the Act on Penalties for Money Laundering Offences will take effect on 1 July 2025, and the amendments to the Act relating to Gambling in Casinos will take effect on 1 January 2026.
