(Chile).- At SoloAzar we share a summary of a note to lawyer Carlos Baeza, who is a member of the prestigious association IMGL (International Masters of Gaming Law) and director of Latamwin, among other Chilean football sponsoring firms, made by a Chilean digital medium last week.

"The iGaming industry is pushing for any modern regulation", Carlos Baeza, Online Casinos lawyer.

In this article, lawyer Carlos Baeza analyses the progress in Congress of the bill on online gambling platforms. The Ministry of Finance is preparing the bill, which is currently under discussion in the Chamber of Deputies.

Regarding the positive aspects of the bill, Carlos Baeza summarises in a few words that "a very good bill has been presented, which takes the experience of the international model, whereby 73% of OECD countries have already regulated the online gambling business.

"The objectives of this law are the same as those that inspire the legislation of the project that was presented: to create a competitive market, user protection for their health and safety, and tax collection," he added.

As for the aspect that is still under debate, it is the tax burden, where the percentage of the "gaming tax" is being discussed, so that it is closer to the ideal, which would be 12% and not 20%, as proposed. "The main idea is to attract international companies to operate in Chile," says Baeza.

The lawyer clarifies that in addition to the possible 20% gambling tax, the tax burden and other details are added, and estimates that the Chilean treasury would collect some USD 50 million. While the casino industry, which has had its own casino law for years, claims that the amount would be almost tripled.
