(Valencia).- The socialists also reject the elimination of the minimum distance between betting houses of 500 meters and ask the Consell to "increase investment in health policies to combat gambling addiction."

The socialist spokesman for the Treasury in Les Corts Valencianes, José Muñoz, has announced that the PSPV-PSOE will present motions in all the town councils of the Valencian Community to reject the modifications to the Gaming Law proposed by PP and Vox that "will allow the houses of betting are located next to educational centers, by ending the minimum distance of 850 meters that they intend to eliminate.
In the document, the socialists also reject the elimination of the minimum distance between betting houses of 500 meters and ask the Consell to "increase investment in health policies to combat gambling addiction", as indicated by the formation in a statement.
"A pioneering law"
In this sense, Muñoz has pointed out that in 2020 the previous Consell "approved a pioneering law in Spain to combat gambling addiction and end the degradation of neighborhoods." "A brave law was passed that prohibited the installation of betting houses, game rooms and slot machines or betting machines within 850 meters of an educational center or a rehabilitation center," he highlighted.
"This distance made it possible to keep the problem of gambling addiction away from the door of our children's schools," he maintained, while pointing out that another of the aspects included in the norm is that, to put an end to the wild proliferation of gambling houses, betting in our neighborhoods, "the minimum distance between these premises was limited to 500 meters."
Lack of dialogue criticized
José Muñoz has criticized that the Consell "has decided to reverse these advances without having spoken with associations that fight against gambling or with other political groups to try to reach an agreement and now want to end the minimum distance of 850 meters between an educational center and of rehabilitation of betting houses and the minimum distance of 500 meters between one betting house and another".
"With this regulation, betting houses will be able to be installed at the door of our children's school without any type of obstacles," he lamented.
