(City of Buenos Aires).- The Government of Buenos Aires sent its partners of Juntos por el Cambio a draft proposal to modify the current regulations of online gambling, with the aim of allowing the owners of the Buenos Aires Racetrack and Puerto Madero Casino the entry into this new business, which will launch before the end of the year and expects to raise more than $ 500 million in municipal taxes.

The entrance of the Hipódromo and the Casino of Puerto Madero to the online bets would be allowed

An important figure, if one takes into account that last year the government headed by Horacio Rodríguez Larreta collected $ 5.2 billion in taxes from companies that participate in the gambling business. But especially it is about "legalizing something that is already happening in a clandestine way", they affirm in the Buenos Aires government.

The owners of rooms where "physical" bets are made are prohibited from the possibility of "online" bets. And they went to court to overturn that restriction. But now the Buenos Aires government seeks to compensate them for the temporary closure of the rooms, since due to the quarantine some 3,000 employees are out of work and they stopped paying the Gross Income tax.

The representatives of the Civic Coalition would be willing to accept the changes proposed by the Buenos Aires government, but with the condition that there are "clean card" restrictions, so that the businessman Cristóbal López, who would be a partner in the operations of the Buenos Aires game and is prosecuted for money laundering, cannot disembark.

Buenos Aires government sources indicated that they could modify their original proposal, to incorporate the "clean record" and that the force led by Elisa Carrió accompany them, as has happened so far with the closures of the bingo halls and the measures related to this sector. Is that "Lilita" is a strong opponent of people spending money in the gambling business and, therefore, presented in the National Congress a bill to prevent gambling.

In fact, the Buenos Aires government claims that, along with the changes to allow the entrance of the Hippodrome and the Floating Casino, a law is also voted to prevent gambling in Buenos Aires, since this issue has not yet been discussed at the national level. Although in this regard there are still some differences between the PRO and the Civic Coalition, especially with the limits on advertising.

The process to start online gambling in the city of Buenos Aires started at the end of 2018, when the Buenos Aires Legislature approved the law that authorized the operation of online gambling houses. The following May the regulations were approved.

In February of this year, the Lottery of the City of Buenos Aires (LOTBA) opened a call for those interested to present themselves. And there are already six business groups processing their authorizations to begin providing services before the end of the year, among which would be the radical operator and binguero businessman Daniel Angelici.

The Buenos Aires government intends that the owners of the Hippodrome and the Puerto Madero Casino can also participate in online betting.

The city estimates "to raise about $ 500 million with online gambling. It is an important figure, because 70 percent of the proceeds goes to social action, which is a critical area with the pandemic," a source from the Buenos Aires government told Clarín. And he added that with this they also intend to legalize something that is currently being done clandestinely.
