(Johannesburg).- The African Lotteries & Gaming Association (ALGA) has announced the appointment of Dr. Maroba “Jimmy” Matsapola to its Board of Directors, strengthening the organization’s leadership with additional expertise in gaming regulation, compliance, governance, and public policy.
ALGA reinforces focus on responsible gaming and regulation
The appointment of Dr. Matsapola comes as Africa’s lotteries and gaming markets continue to expand and face new regulatory challenges. ALGA highlighted that his professional background will support the association’s efforts to promote responsible gaming practices, regulatory excellence, and sustainable growth across the continent’s gaming industry.
Recognized as a legal professional and governance specialist, Dr. Matsapola brings extensive experience in regulatory frameworks, institutional leadership, and compliance matters, areas that have become increasingly relevant as African jurisdictions continue developing their gaming ecosystems.
According to ALGA, his arrival will contribute to strengthening collaboration among stakeholders and advancing initiatives aimed at building a more connected and innovative gaming sector.
Leadership appointment aligned with Africa’s gaming evolution
The African Lotteries & Gaming Association stated that the appointment reflects its commitment to enhancing industry standards and supporting the continued modernization of lotteries and gaming markets throughout Africa.
“As Africa's lotteries and gaming sectors continue to evolve, we look forward to the insight, strategic leadership, and collaborative vision Dr Matsapola will contribute in shaping a more connected, innovative, and impactful future for the industry,” the association said.

Dr. Matsapola joins ALGA Board with regulatory expertise
Through his experience in law, governance, and public policy, Dr. Maroba Matsapola is expected to play a role in supporting ALGA’s strategic objectives and initiatives focused on strengthening the region’s gaming and lottery frameworks.

In addition, ALGA has confirmed that Yodit Wolde, former executive at the Ethiopian Lottery Service, and John Mutua have officially joined the Board of Directors.
