Dutch Ksa Mandates New Guidelines for Easy Gambling Account Closure

Ksa Implements Strict Guidance on Gambling Account Closures

The Netherlands Gambling Authority (Ksa) has observed that not all licensed gambling companies are properly complying with the rules regarding account termination. Viewing this as a serious concern, the Ksa has issued new guidelines to further clarify the regulations. The fundamental principle is that operators must make it as easy as possible for players to close their gambling accounts whenever they request to do so.

Gambling companies have sometimes created barriers that make it difficult to close an account, such as forcing players to contact customer service first. The Ksa emphasizes that this is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, if an individual proactively contacts customer service or uses a chat feature to request an account closure, the gambling operator is not allowed to use that conversation as an opportunity to persuade the player to stay.

Clear Rules for Player Funds and Future Compliance

The newly established guidance also provides additional clarification on what must happen with any remaining player funds. Gambling operators are required to pay out leftover money without unnecessary delay and are prohibited from attaching any conditions to these withdrawals.

The Ksa strongly emphasizes that it considers the obstructive practices observed in the past to be absolutely unacceptable. With the release of this new guidance, there should no longer be any ambiguity for licensed operators regarding how the process for closing gambling accounts must be structured and managed.
