(Lagos).- The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) has successfully onboarded eight individuals from Lagos Island into the LagRide Nigeria platform, providing them with vehicles, professional training, and a clear path to vehicle ownership.

LSLGA Empowers Lagos Island Residents with LagRide Drive-to-Own Vehicles

A Pathway to Vehicle Ownership and Employment

Through the LagRide Partner Programme, eight locals have been officially integrated as "Captains" on Lagos State's e-mobility platform. The initiative was spearheaded and funded by Mr. Bashir Are, CEO of the LSLGA, who selected the first cohort from Lagos Island. To ensure high standards, the beneficiaries underwent a rigorous interview and assessment phase, followed by comprehensive instruction at the LagRide Drivers Academy.

By covering the costs of both the vehicles and the training, the LSLGA effectively eliminated the financial hurdles that often prevent young people from entering the formal mobility sector.

Expanding the Drive-To-Own Initiative

Each new Captain now operates under the platform's Drive-To-Own model, which allows them to generate a steady income while steadily working toward full ownership of their cars. This initial rollout represents just the first phase of a much larger vision, as LagRide ultimately plans to deploy 3,500 vehicles in collaboration with various partner organizations. Furthermore, candidates who did not meet the initial requirements will not be left behind; they are scheduled for additional training to prepare them for future inclusion in the program.

Enhancing Lagos' Mega-City Mobility

The driving force behind this initiative is twofold: tackling local unemployment and elevating the city's transportation standards. During the handover ceremony, Mr. Are emphasized that the LSLGA (Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority) hosts Africa's largest gaming and fintech conference annually and requires top-tier transportation for arriving international delegates.

By empowering local youth who could not afford the initial capital, the agency is fostering economic independence for families in the Lagos Island Local Government area. Mr. Are stressed the long-term commitment of the initiative, noting that it is a continuous empowerment program rather than a temporary project.

Comprehensive Training and Leadership Support

Before hitting the road, the new Captains completed a thorough training curriculum that covered essential skills, including customer service, safety protocols, vehicle maintenance, financial management, and brand representation.

The ceremonial handover of the vehicle keys was attended by prominent figures, including LagRide Chairman Chief Diana Chen, LSLGA CEO Mr. Bashir Are, Hon. Dr. Princess Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon of the Lagos State House of Assembly, and Mildred Ekanem, LagRide's Executive Director and Dean of the Drivers Academy.
