(Washington).- It is estimated that 2,720 million dollars could be bet on men's and women's NCAA basketball tournaments in American sports betting houses, according to an analysis published recently by the American Gaming Association. This national competition will start next week.

March Madness will move 2,720 million dollars in bets

The estimate of 2,720 million dollars is sometimes double what is believed to be bet on this year's Super Bowl (1,400 million dollars), according to Dave Forman, head of research at the American Gaming Association (AGA), there lobbying organization based in Washington, DC group representing the casino industry.

Forman says that the analysis of the AGA is based only on monthly reports on sports game revenue published by the states, and that the estimate only includes the bets made in NCAA tournaments, not in conference tournaments, with sports betting houses in the United States.

“March Madness is the biggest and most popular betting event of the year,” says Forman to ESPN. "But as legal sports tickets have existed for five years and are available in 40 states, we wanted to focus on the legal market."

Forman says that no one is reporting the number of bets on men's and women's games separately, but the DraftKings, FanDuel and Tipico betting houses report a significant year-over-year increase in their bets for the women's regular season.

The UConn champion is the favorite in the betting to win the men's tournament with odds of +450 on ESPN BET, and Carolina del Sur (-130) is the favorite in the betting to win the women's tournament.
