(New York).- About 31.4 million American adults plan to bet on Super Bowl LVI, a 35 percent increase from 2021, according to new research from the American Gaming Association, the commercial casino industry’s top lobbying group.

People in U.S. expected to Bet $7.6B on Super Bowl

Bettors will wager an estimated $7.61 billion on this year’s NFL championship game, up 78 percent ($3.33B) from 2021.

The numbers come as more states across the country sanction sportsbooks and allow them to fill the airwaves with ads.

The AGA found that 18.2 million Americans will “place traditional sports wagers online, at a retail sportsbook or with a bookie, up 78 percent from 2021.”

Even more people, an estimated 18.5 million, plan to “bet casually with friends or as part of a pool or squares contest, up 23 percent from 2021,” the AGA said.

As for the betting public’s favorite team, the AGA found that 55 percent of people plan to wager on the Rams, with 45 percent eyeing some kind of bet on the Bengals.

“The results are clear: Americans have never been more interested in legal sports wagering, the AGA said in a statement. “The growth of legal options across the country not only protects fans and the integrity of games and bets.”
