(Madrid).- The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has officially joined this Tuesday the SIGMA global research service for the betting market, after signing an agreement with the General Directorate of the Regulation of the Game in the City of Football of Las Rozas (Madrid).
This agreement has been signed by the president of the RFEF Management Commission, Pedro Rocha, and the general director of Gambling Regulation, Mikel Arana. Through this agreement, the RFEF takes another step in its work to prevent and detect all fraudulent practices related to illegal sports betting, by formally joining SIGMA.
This service is an interactive cooperation network, in which its participants exchange information to fight fraud in the sports betting market, also preventing manipulation in competitions of this type.
Pedro Rocha has assured that football, as an "example for society ", must fight against everything that distorts the competition and its sporting spirit. "To truly be an example, we must ensure equal opportunities, the safety and protection of all the people who practice it and, of course, its cleanliness," stated the president of the RFEF Management Commission.
"Working against illegal sports betting means protecting our football and taking care of its cleanliness," he insisted, before stating that, with the signed agreement, the RFEF is committed to "continuing to provide transparency and to collaborate with the institutions and security forces." ".
For his part, Mikel Arana thanked the RFEF for its commitment to clean betting, and emphasized "the importance of the world of football representing the true values of sport." Arana has reiterated "the firm will of the DGOJ to continue its work in pursuing sports fixing", and its intention to "incorporate new actors into the global research service of the betting market to improve its effectiveness and strength."
The event, in addition to Pedro Rocha and Mikel Arana, was attended by different officials from the RFEF such as Felipe Sánchez-Pedreño, director of Integrity, and from the General Directorate, such as the deputy director general of Gaming Regulation, Eugenio Álvarez Fernández; or the deputy general director of Gaming Inspection, Cecilia Pastor Pons.
