(Switzerland).- Sportradar, a company that tracks data in professional sports and has deep roots in Minneapolis, is in talks with a special purpose acquisition company that could result in the tech firm going public.

Sportradar may go public in SPAC deal

Bloomberg, citing unidentified sources, says that Sportradar is in talks with Horizon Acquisition Corp., though a deal isn't certain.

A valuation also hasn't been disclosed, though Sportico reported in February that Sportradar could end up being valued at more than $10 billion. That would be a big increase over its valuation of $2.4 billion in a 2018 deal.

Sportradar is based in Switzerland, but has a big office in downtown Minneapolis, dating from its acquisition of Minneapolis-based SportsData, a startup that collected game data and disseminated it to pro teams and media outlets. That acquisition allowed Sportradar to enter the U.S. market for the first time.

The company's significance has increased since then, signing up data deals with the NFL, NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball. Sportdata's customers include sports-betting operations around the world.
