(New York).- No football meant far less wagering for Empire State sportsbooks last week, as recently reported numbers show. The end of the football season took its toll on the amount of action taken by online sports betting sites in the Empire State.

Sports betting shrinks in New York post-Super Bowl

Numbers reported by the New York State Gaming Commission on Thursday show the state's nine online sportsbooks handled $339.6 million in bets during the week ended February 19, down from $424.3 million the week before.

The usual dip

The dropoff was due to the end of the National Football League’s season, as the Super Bowl was played on February 12. However, the fact there was no big event like the Super Bowl last week may have helped New York operators with their weekly receipts.

Gross gaming revenue earned by online sports betting sites in New York last week was $23 million, up from $12 million for the week ended February 12 and good for a hold of 6.8%. The win rate for the week ended February 12 was 2.8%.

The top operator by handle last week was FanDuel, which registered $137 million in wagering and turned it into $11.3 million in revenue. DraftKings was runner-up, as per usual, with $110.8 million in wagering and $7.4 million in revenue. Caesars Sportsbook rounded out the podium by taking $44.6 million in bets and generating $1.4 million in revenue.
