Survey reveals that 29% of Brazilians bet on sportsbooks

(Brazil).- A recent survey conducted by Quaest, released last Friday (17), revealed that 29% of Brazilians have the habit of placing sports bets online, while 71% of respondents said they do not usually bet. The study was commissioned by Genial Investimentos and interviewed 2,004 people aged 16 and over between April 9 and 13, with a margin of error of two percentage points and a confidence level of 95%.
Analysis by Region
The survey also explored the practice of sports betting in different demographics, including region, gender, age group and income. The results by region were as follows:
- South: Yes (37%) | No (63%)
- Southeast: Yes (29%) | No (71%)
- Midwest/North: Yes (27%) | No (73%)
- Northeast: Yes (25%) | No (75%)
Data by Gender
When analyzing the data by gender, 33% of men reported that they usually bet, while only 21% of women said the same. See the numbers:

- Male: Yes (33%) | No (67%)

Age Group
Regarding age, the survey showed that 27% of people between 16 and 34 years old usually bet, while 30% of respondents aged between 35 and 59 and 30% of those aged 60 and over also stated that they bet. It is worth remembering that, according to Brazilian law, sports betting is only allowed for people over 18 years old.
Family Income
Regarding family income, 32% of people who earn between 2 and 5 minimum wages said they have the habit of betting. The rate is 26% among those who earn more than 5 minimum wages and 24% among those who earn up to 2 minimum wages.
Influence of Religion
Religion also had a significant impact on the results. Only 23 percent of evangelicals said they would bet, compared with 34 percent of Catholics.
Political Positioning
Finally, when analyzing the answers according to political positioning, 33% of Bolsonaro's supporters said they place sports bets online. Among independent voters, this number is 31%, while 27% of those who identify themselves as non-Lulista leftists and 26% of Lulistas reported that they usually bet. The non-Bolsonarist right had 25% of supporters of bets.
