(Macau).- Gaming operator Las Vegas Sands and its local subsidiary Sands China announced on Wednesday a new ‘Londoner Macau’ project which will renew and extend the existing Sands Cotai.

Las Vegas Sands introduces ‘Londoner Macau’ expansion project for Sands Cotai

During a press conference held yesterday, Sands indicated that it will invest about US$2.2 billion (MOP17.7 billion) on its latest ‘British-themed’ project and that it expects it will be completed in phases by 2020 and 2021, respectively.

The new project will renew the previous Holiday Inn into ‘Londoner Hotel’, and includes the current Conrad Hotel, Sheraton Hotel, and St. Regis Hotel in Sands Cotai, which could provide over 6,000 hotel rooms and suites after the renovation.

The gaming area will be about 34,000 square meters and is expected to provide about 450 gaming tables and 2,000 slot machines as well as VIP rooms.

The president of Sands China, Wilfred Wong Ying Wai, added that about 95 per cent of the ‘Londoner’ project will be comprised of non-gaming elements, including retail, entertainment and dining facilities.

Las Vegas Sands president and Chief Operating Officer (COO), Robert Goldstein said that the group is confident it will managed to regain a new gaming concession since Sands had invested over US$15 billion in non-gaming elements in Macau, which they believe ‘matched’ the expectations of the local Government.

Sands China gaming concession is set to expire in 2022.
