(Macau).- Macau’s visitor numbers have quickly rebounded following the lifting of border restrictions by Zhuhai on 19 October, with average daily visitor arrivals exceeding 25,000 for the nine-day period from 20 to 28 October.

Macau visitor arrivals averaging over 25,000 per day since border reopening: MGTO

According to information released by the Macao Government Tourism Office, the highest single day tally of visitor arrivals since reopening was also recorded on 26 October when more than 28,000 people entered into Macau.

The MGTO said it had moved quickly to launch a series of marketing campaigns “to spotlight Macau as a safe and quality destination among Mainland residents through various social media such as WeChat, Weibo, Xiaohongshu and Douyin, while pushing forward different promotional initiatives.

“With the stable pandemic situation and the promotional efforts gradually paying off, Macau has seen a steady rebound in visitor arrivals in recent days and registered the highest single-day record of 28,299 visitor arrivals on 26 October.”

It added that mainland citizens have “expressed much interest in visiting Macau” on those same social media channels.

Zhuhai had imposed a 14-day mandatory quarantine measure on individuals from Macau on 26 September after the SAR Macau reported that several security guards working in quarantine hotels had tested positive to COVID-19. The policy was extended several times, including throughout all of the October Golden Week period, after a construction worker was also found to be infected. As a result, borders between Zhuhai and Macau were effectively closed for more than three weeks before restrictions were lifted on 19 October.

The Macao SAR Government also confirmed last week that, with the pandemic situation under control, the annual Macau Grand Prix would proceed this month with a six-race schedule planned for the weekend of 19 to 21 November.
