(Macau).- The number of visitors to Macau dropped again in October, both compared to the previous month and compared to the same period in 2020.
According to the Statistics and Census Bureau, Macau received 328,245 visitors, 47.8 per cent less than in September.
The authorities justified this decrease with the implementation of more restrictive measures on the border with China, as a consequence of the emergence of less than a dozen cases of covid-19 that were identified in Macau in early October.
Compared to October 2020, the number of visitors dropped by 43.6 per cent.
In the first ten months of the year, Macau registered 6,083,773 visitors, while an average of three million per month entered the territory in the pre-pandemic period.
Even so, an increase of 32.2 per cent, compared to the same period of 2020.
In the whole year of 2019, Macau had almost 40 million visitors.
