(Punta del Este). – In recent hours, several meetings were held in Uruguay’s main resort town regarding the interest of a Brazilian investment group in developing a new private casino in Playa Mansa.
The land is located at km 126 of the Interbalnearia highway, across from the Punta del Chileno roundabout. It consists of several lots, near the OSE facilities, and covers approximately 10,000 square meters. The project will be submitted to the Ministry of Economy and other national and departmental institutions, and will be part of a larger real estate development that includes more than 120 residential units, a shopping promenade, restaurants, an entertainment area, and the private casino.
The preliminary study for the proposed new casino in Punta del Este is awaiting approval from the Ministry of Economy. It was planned in accordance with Law 16.736 on Casino Operations in Uruguay, which establishes the legal framework for the operation of gaming establishments in the country.
The consulting firm Giménez y Asociados is leading the project in Uruguay. In conversation with Montevideo Portal, its representative stated: “We carried out an impact study over more than five years and the results are positive. The study analyzes several aspects of the project, such as investment level, target audience, commercial developments within the complex, and above all, it offers a new option and entertainment space in an area with great potential, allowing for sustainable development. The investment group is Brazilian, from Rio Grande do Sul, and consists of entrepreneurs with strong ties to our main resort town. They know our country very well, have been property owners here for decades, and are businesspeople with multiple developments in Brazil in hospitality, real estate, restaurants, and retail chains. We are very satisfied with the preliminary meetings held with national and departmental authorities, but above all with representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, who have viewed this initiative very positively.”
Regarding timelines, construction schedules, and investment amounts, Dr. Francisco Giménez added: “We are still processing data, but we already have a roadmap outlining the timeframes for each stage of the new complex’s construction. There are still many aspects to define, which fall under the responsibility of the architectural firm. In addition, another study is being carried out by the investors, where the essential characteristics of the commercial space, the entertainment area, and the casino itself are being outlined. The casino will have a well-defined profile and will be positioned within a specific market segment.”
