(Macau).- Sands China’s Sheraton Hotel will stop being used as a government-designated quarantine hotel from December 13, tourism authorities announced Thursday.
The 4,000-room Cotai property had allocated half of its room capacity again for Macau government use at the end of September, amid the city’s latest response to the Covid-19 emergency.
Sources have also indicated to Macau News Agency that Regency Art Hotel will also stop serving as a quarantine destination from December 15, leaving only Pousada Marina Infante as the only government hotel facility.
According to the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), a total of 984 people were under medical observation in local hotels as of today, 262 in designated medical observation hotels, 652 in self-selected medical observation hotels – Grand Coloane Resort and Lisboeta – and 70 in the newly established special quarantine facility set at Treasure Hotel.
The total includes 459 Macau residents, 44 foreign employees and 481 tourists.
Medical observation hotels were previously divided into two categories: designated hotels, which have a fixed daily fee of MOP400 per night and are limited to Macau ID holders and their relatives; and optional hotels, which are available to non-Macau ID holders and where the price is determined by the property’s management.
Since December 1 a special isolation hotel has been established at the Treasure Hotel for arrivals coming from high-risk countries, with automated robots to provide non-contact services, such as body temperature scanning, disinfection, and material distribution.
