´We are writing a book on how to regulate gambling in Latin America´: Carlos Fonseca, Gaming Law

How have you experienced this new edition of PGS?

It seems to have been very successful. It has been very international, and although the issue of remote betting has been one of the main issues, many physical casino providers have also attended the show, as well as slot machine manufacturers, a sign that everything is returning to normal.

How is your company positioned in Peru and in Latam in general?

The last two years have been great. As we are a firm specialized in consulting for the gaming industry in Latin America, we have been quite active with the boom of online gambling in South America. We are constantly consulting for countries such as Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Chile and Ecuador.

What expectations do you have regarding the future of the online gaming sector?

This year there will be a law that regulates online betting as well as face-to-face betting. Currently there are at least 40 international operators with direct marketing to the Peruvian territory. Up to 9 bills were presented in Congress for this regular activity. There are many flaws, it is true, but there is also an eagerness to correct them. Peru could have the best regulation in Latin America, we hope that there is political will on the part of the congressmen for it, but there are many contributions to make a good law. I definitely believe that this year it will be approved.

What are the company's plans for the rest of the year?

The first thing is that we will continue to sponsor the Peru Gaming Show every year, and we will also participate in other events. We were recently at EXPOJOC in Valencia, where we did the first gaming panel in Latin America and we have several projects in Latin America and an office in the US for international issues. We are finally writing a book on how to regulate gambling in Latin America. It is a long-term academic work that we hope will be useful for the technical development of this sector in the region.
