Digitain: Gevorg Rushanyan Discusses World Cup Success and the Future of the LatAm Market
⏱ 3 min read
(Yerevan, SoloAzar Exclusive).- Gevorg Rushanyan, Digitain Head of LatAm Region, granted an exclusive interview to SoloAzar in which he shared detailed insights into the company's sportsbook performance following the recent World Cup, the shift towards player retention in maturing markets, and Digitain’s ambitious long-term strategy for Latin America.
Post-World Cup Analysis and Player Engagement
The World Cup has always carried an enormous significance for the industry, and we were very happy with how our sportsbook performed. Traffic and betting activity usually increase naturally during this period up to twice the regular numbers, but for us, it was never just about handling the volume - it was about giving operators the right tools to turn that attention into meaningful engagement and retention.
For example, we introduced features such as Single Goal Early Payout, Group Stage Predictions, along with our World Cup home page to navigate everything from a single page. We also introduced a unique Goal Highlights & Watch & Bet feature, which allows users to place bets while watching the live stream within a single view. Overall, our dedicated World Cup homepage saw strong player engagement and increased traffic.
A major tournament will always bring new audiences through the door. The challenging part is giving them a reason to stay. That is why we put so much emphasis on engagement, product quality, and reliability. We were pleased with the results, and perhaps even more pleased with the feedback from our partners.
The Critical Role of Platform Flexibility and Stability
Platform flexibility is essential, especially during major sporting events where player expectations and market conditions can change rapidly. However, I would put stability right alongside it. During a major event, operators need to be able to react quickly and adapt their offering, but none of that matters if the platform cannot handle the increased traffic.
Players expect everything to work instantly, including registration, deposits, live content, even when demand is at its highest. Our partners from the region gave us very positive feedback on the stability of the platform during the tournament, which was particularly important to us. New features are important, but when the pressure is on, reliability is what really counts.
Evolving Priorities in a Maturing LatAm Market
You have been responsible for Digitain’s LatAm strategy for several years now. How do you see operators’ priorities changing as LATAM markets continue to mature?
It’s not a secret that the market is becoming more sophisticated. In regulated LATAM markets, operators obviously need to make compliance a priority, but they also need to keep growing. For us, that means helping them solve both challenges rather than treating regulation and commercial growth as separate conversations.
We are also seeing much more attention on retention. A few years ago, the conversation was largely about acquiring as many players as possible. Today, operators are asking a more difficult question: how do we keep them? This is creating a demand for faster, more engaging and more gamified products, especially for the next generation of players.
Embracing Regulation Across Latin America
We see regulation as a positive step for the region. Of course, every market has its own requirements, and regulation can bring challenges, but it also creates clarity. When everyone knows the rules, companies can make longer-term investments with greater confidence. LATAM is not one single market. Every country has its own culture, regulation and player behaviour, so local understanding is extremely important.
Digitain has more than 20 years of experience in the industry, so adapting to different regulatory requirements is something we are very familiar with. Being able to respond quickly is important, especially for our partners who need to adapt their businesses without slowing down.
Digitain’s Long-Term Vision for Regional Expansion
We want to build a long-term presence in LATAM, not simply expand our partner list. Our overall ambition for the region is to work with leading, top-tier operators and provide technology that genuinely helps them grow and stand out. That, of course, requires being close to the market.
I am proud that our LATAM team continues to expand, and we plan to have local hubs to help us stay close to partners across the region and understand what is happening on the ground. There is a lot of potential in Latin America, but the next stage will be about doing things properly, understanding each market, investing locally and building products around what operators and their players actually need.
That is where we see Digitain’s opportunity. Latin America is entering a new phase of growth, and we want to be part of that journey by providing the technology, flexibility, and expertise that operators need to succeed.
