Dutch Gambling Authority Flags Operators Over Incomplete Information on ‘Early Payout’ Sports Betting Feature

(The Hague).- The Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa), the Dutch Gambling Authority, has addressed multiple online sports betting operators over insufficient and potentially misleading information regarding the “early payout” feature. The regulator found that several providers failed to clearly communicate the limitations of the function, particularly its inapplicability to draw outcomes.
The supervisory action, announced today (11 February 2026) follows a review of how licensed operators present and explain the mechanics of early payout offers to consumers.
Confusion Over Draw Outcomes
The “early payout” feature allows players to have their wager settled as a win if their selected team takes a two-goal lead during a match, regardless of the final result. However, this mechanism cannot apply to bets on a draw, as a draw by definition involves no team leading at the conclusion of the match.
According to the Ksa, some operators promoted lower odds under the early payout banner for draw bets, while the detailed terms and conditions clarified that early payout was not available in such cases. In practice, this discrepancy created the impression that the feature could also be triggered for draw wagers.
The regulator concluded that this lack of clarity could mislead players, who might assume that early payout conditions applied equally to all listed betting options.
Obligation to Provide Clear and Understandable Information
Under Dutch gambling regulations, licensed operators are required to provide transparent and comprehensible information about betting products, including all relevant conditions and potential outcomes.
The Ksa determined that the communication surrounding the early payout function did not meet these standards. As a result, the operators offering the feature were formally contacted and instructed to improve the clarity of their customer-facing information.
Following the regulator’s intervention, the providers involved have adjusted their communications to more explicitly state that early payout does not apply to draw bets. The Ksa emphasized that accurate and transparent product information is essential to maintaining consumer trust and ensuring compliance within the regulated Dutch online gambling market.
