(Japan).- Japan’s casino resort race is finally heating up with Nagasaki and Osaka prefectures taking steps towards choosing a preferred casino candidate to submit to the national government for approval.
In Nagasaki, Oshidori International, Casinos Austria and Niki Chau Fwu have qualified for the next round of the operator selection process.
Current Corp and One Kyushu, the consortium of Groupe Partouche and Tokyo-listed Pixel Companyz, have been eliminated from the process.
The next stage begins in May and involves talks with potential operators who will then present casino projects in August. Operators will be selected after this.
Nagasaki has set next spring as an application deadline, hoping construction can begin in 2023 if the prefecture is selected by the national government to host a casino.
Osaka is considering submissions until April 6 from any additional parties interested in operating a casino.
July will be the deadline for responses to the request-for-proposal process with the selection of an operator to be chosen in September. Osaka will submit its plan for a casino to the national government in April.
Currently, the only qualified Osaka applicant is MGM and local partner Orix.
