Macau gov´ t expecting US$ 11.2 B in gaming tax revenues for 2020

(Macau).- The Macau government estimates it will collect US$11.2 billion in gaming taxes in 2020, according to the CEO budget proposal for next year. Local authorities’ budget estimates tend to be conservative, with the Macau government having estimated 2019 would finish with US$ 12.2 billion in gaming taxes collected and US$ 14.2 billion in collected revenue.
However, authorities have already collected nearly US$ 10.6 billion in tax revenue from the city’s gaming industry in the first nine months of this year, a 0.33 per cent year-on-year rise.
The Macau government collects a 35 per cent tax on casino gaming revenues but other levies raising the effective tax rate to 39 per cent. Just between January and October of this year accumulated revenues from the gaming sector have already reached US$ 30.5 billion.
Meanwhile, the Macau government collected around US$ 13.2 billion in gaming taxes in 2018, a 13.6 per cent increase from the year prior, with the year having finished with a total of US$37.5 billion.
The 2020 budget also estimates a 0.3 per cent increase in Macau’s overall revenue to us$ 15.2 billion, with expenses to fall 2.6 per cent to MOP100.6 billion, and with an expected surplus of us$ 2.5 billion.
