Football remains a powerful economic force in Brazil, and the recent legalisation of online sports betting is amplifying this impact. By 2023, the sports betting market has not only shown remarkable growth, but has begun to transform the Brazilian economy in a positive way.
By 2025, the legalisation and regulation of online sports betting is expected to generate tax revenues of approximately R$1.7 billion. In addition, the gambling market is expected to move close to R$ 7 billion in revenues, contributing directly to essential areas such as infrastructure, health and education.
Bookmakers are making record investments in Brazilian football. In the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, sponsorship from these companies exceeded R$ 500 million per year, with 19 of the 20 elite football clubs having partnerships with betting firms. This financial support is crucial for strengthening the clubs and improving their competitiveness.
In addition, sports betting is intensifying the engagement of fans, who can now interact more deeply with their teams through live betting.
The ANJL (Associação Nacional de Jogos de Lotéricas), an association that is committed to the regulation and transparency of the online betting market in Brazil, plays a key role in this scenario. With the aim of establishing more transparency and security in the market, a formalised regulation was recently published through Law 14.790, sanctioned at the end of 2023. This law marks a significant step forward in the regulation of online sports betting, creating a legal framework that ensures a safe and transparent environment.
The ANJL remains dedicated to ensuring that the growth of the sector is sustainable and beneficial to all. A promising future is on the horizon for football and betting in Brazil. Stay tuned to our updates for more information and analysis on these exciting developments in the sector.
