Brazil's Treasury Updates List of 223 Authorized Betting Brands

On Friday evening, the Ministry of Finance updated the list of betting companies authorised to continue operating in Brazil until December.

There are now 223 gaming and betting brands belonging to 100 companies (see which brands below). Previously, there were just over 200 brands.

Among the newly authorised platforms is Esportes da Sorte, the sponsor of Corinthians, which was the target of an investigation by the Pernambuco Civil Police. According to the ministry document, Esportes Gaming Brasil LTDA was included on the list ‘due to a court order’ and is authorised to operate with Esporte da Sorte and Onabet betting.

New betting regulations

The companies on the national list applied for authorisation to continue operating, a process that ended on 17 September. The first list released by the Treasury at the beginning of the month included 89 companies, owners of 193 bets. Subsequently, others were included.

Those that have not obtained government permission are banned from operating in the country.

On Thursday, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) notified telecoms service providers of the decision by the Ministry of Finance's Department of Prizes and Betting to prevent their customers from accessing the content of websites and applications of online betting companies defined as irregular.

When will the bets go offline?

These bets were blocked on 11 October. In all, the Treasury drew up a list of 2,040 bets that were not authorised to operate.

From December onwards, the government will update this list of authorised companies and include only those betting companies that have successfully obtained the licence to operate legally.
