(Dublin).- The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Danish Gambling Authority, reinforcing regulatory cooperation between the two European jurisdictions. The agreement is aimed at enhancing collaboration on compliance, supervision, information sharing, and enforcement as regulators respond to the increasingly cross-border nature of the online gambling industry.
GRAI and Danish Gambling Authority expand regulatory cooperation
The newly signed Memorandum of Understanding establishes a framework for closer cooperation between the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland and the Danish Gambling Authority.
The agreement is designed to facilitate the exchange of information and improve coordination on compliance monitoring and enforcement activities, particularly as both regulators oversee many of the same gambling operators and encounter similar market challenges.
The initiative reflects the growing emphasis among European regulators on coordinated oversight of licensed gambling markets, especially as digital gambling services continue to expand across national borders.
Addressing cross-border regulatory challenges
The signing follows a recent meeting between Anne Marie Caulfield, CEO of the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, and Anders Dorph, Director General of the Danish Gambling Authority.
During their discussions, the two officials exchanged views on the evolving regulatory landscape and explored opportunities to align supervisory approaches where appropriate.
According to the authorities, stronger cooperation is becoming increasingly important in a digital-first gambling environment, where effective regulation often requires coordinated responses to cross-border risks and shared market dynamics.
Information sharing and enforcement remain key priorities
The Memorandum of Understanding places particular emphasis on strengthening collaboration in areas such as regulatory compliance, market monitoring, enforcement activities, and the exchange of relevant information between both jurisdictions.
By formalizing this cooperation, the Irish and Danish regulators aim to improve oversight of operators that are active across multiple European markets while supporting more consistent regulatory practices.
Anne Marie Caulfield welcomes the agreement
Commenting on the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, Anne Marie Caulfield, CEO of the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, said:
"This Memorandum of Understanding with the Danish Gambling Authority is another vital milestone in strengthening cooperation between regulators operating in closely connected markets.
Continued dialogue and collaboration between Ireland and Denmark will support more effective oversight and regulation, and we see this agreement as part of our continued efforts to deepen cooperation with regulatory partners across Europe."
European regulatory cooperation continues to grow
The agreement underscores the broader trend toward closer collaboration among European gambling regulators as the industry becomes increasingly interconnected.
Supporting a more coordinated regulatory framework
For regulators, enhanced cooperation provides additional tools to address common compliance issues, share supervisory expertise, and respond more effectively to risks associated with cross-border gambling operations.
The Memorandum of Understanding between the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland and the Danish Gambling Authority represents another step toward building a more coordinated European regulatory framework, reinforcing market integrity and supporting effective oversight across licensed gambling jurisdictions.
