Italy bans advertising of sports betting houses on football

(Italy).- Italy approved a decree called “Decree for Dignity” that has influence on several football aspects. Its greatest reforms are focused on the labour market, however, they will affect football due to the advertising ban on sportsbetting houses.

Such companies are integrating the whole football world. Its names are on equipment, sports programs, billboards, etc.


The Decree for Dignity, a reform applied in Italy, will ban advertising of sportsbetting houses on football from July 14th. It will involve a great change, because many teams have sponsors on their T-shirts.


'Tuttosport' newspaper assures that A Series will stop winning around 35 million auros. On the other hand, the National Association of Advertising Users estimates losses for 150 million euros.


This way, Italy intends to fight one of the most mediatic phehomena of the recent years. Gambling problems are proliferating, according to a Canadian university of Calgary, published on The Lancet newspaper, and a need to bring a solution that is against the economic interests of the Italian football league.
