(New York).- Cockroach Labs has been tapped by one of the world's leading online betting operators, Kindred Group, to further the development of a truly resilient, agile, and compliant global online gambling platform. Kindred manages on average over 30 million financial transactions a day - comparable to companies such as PayPal - and needs to ensure every transaction (e.g., bets placed in real time) is accurate, immediate, and secure. Using CockroachDB, an ultra-resilient SQL database for global business, Kindred is deploying a first of its kind, globally distributed platform that uses multi-active data centers to provide a world-class experience to its 24 million customers.

Kindred Is Betting Big on CockroachDB For Global Data Center Solution

With CockroachDB, Kindred will be able to quickly deploy data centers closer to their ever-expanding customer base around the globe, significantly improving the gambling experience while ensuring the flexibility required in a constantly evolving and complex compliance environment. Kindred will also improve its resilience to data center failures, while seamlessly scaling its platform across markets and brands, all while ensuring compliance with changing global regulations, such as GDPR and other regional data restrictions.

"Working with Cockroach Labs will improve our ability to expand operations into markets such as the US. With this solution, we're pioneering technological advancements in international online gaming, and our customers will have an even better experience thanks to the resilience, multi-active availability, and efficiency CockroachDB provides," says Marcus Smedman, CTO at Kindred Group.

Kindred's current architecture allows Kindred to scale well within one data center where this new platform will add the capability to scale geographically more rapidly. CockroachDB is the only SQL database for high-scale, geographically distributed workloads that require always-on availability of transactional data. CockroachDB scales and replicates transactional data across data centers, even across the globe, to put information closer to customers to ensure even the most time-sensitive transactions can occur without error or delay. In the case of Kindred, these could be online bets placed from anywhere in the world; in other use cases, any company hosting financial transactions occurring rapidly and simultaneously at a massive scale stands to benefit from CockroachDB.

Cockroach Labs CEO and Co-Founder, Spencer Kimball explains, "We're seeing tremendous demand for a geo-distributed SQL database, and Kindred is a perfect example. They need a database that provides global scale and compliance with complex data regulations — all without compromising performance for customers who could be thousands of miles from each other. For businesses that need the strictest level of correctness for massive amounts of critical data, this technology is unparalleled."
