SBC Summit LATAM: From Tackling Illegal Betting Sites to Ethical Issues in Sponsorships

(Miami).-In recent years, the sports betting landscape in Latin America has undergone a transformative shift. Once overshadowed by markets in Europe and North America, the region is now rapidly emerging as a promising hub with vast potential for both local and global brands.
The upcoming SBC Summit Latinoamerica aims to provide 4,000 industry professionals with the opportunity to explore and strengthen their presence in the region’s burgeoning markets through the focused 'Sports Betting & Media track.
The conference track is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 30th, the first core day of Latin America’s premier iGaming and sports betting event, held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Miami.
Attendees can look forward to discussions on key issues shaping the sports betting sector, including the evolving sponsorship market in Latin America, the impact of changing regulations on gambling opportunities, strategies for operators to stand out in the competitive Brazilian market, and how operators and regulators can work together to combat illegal sites, among other topics.
Opening the track is the session titled ‘Brazil's Betting Boom - What's Next for the Market?’ which will delve into the future potential of the Brazilian sports betting. Industry leaders from major operators including Livia Troise (CEO, Betmais), Andre Gelfi (Managing Partner Brazil - Betsson Group and President, IBJR), Alex Fonseca (CEO, Superbet), and João Andre Gercossimo (CEO, Estrelabet) will discuss strategies for capitalizing on the market's recent success, explore opportunities for new mergers and acquisitions, provide innovative marketing insights, and assess whether stricter regulations might be on the horizon.
The session titled ‘Scoring Deals: The Future of Commercial Partnerships for LATAM Futbol’ will address the anticipated changes set to impact the Latin American sponsorship market. Regional football club representatives Samuel Perez (CCO & CMO, Club Colo Colo) and Roby Martinez (Marketing, Commercial and Communications, Racing Club (Argentina) will examine how emerging regulatory hurdles may affect the region’s gambling opportunities. Additionally, the panel will discuss how the recent Copa America has created new avenues for collaboration between clubs and gambling brands, offering the potential to broaden their reach and attract new fans.
The session ‘Cracking Down: Strengthening Regulations Against Illegal Online Gambling Sites,’ will address the escalating issue of illegal gambling sites in Latin America. Industry experts Dr. Evert Montero Cárdenas (President, Fecoljuegos), Andres Tamayo (Gerente General, Full Reto), and Dr. Agustín Li Gambi (President of the Legal Affairs Commission of the Asociación de Loterías Estatales de Argentina (ALEA) will discuss the detrimental impact of these illegal operations,
explore opportunities to establish a stronger regulatory framework to protect players and the industry's economic potential. Additionally, the panellists will present strategies for regulators and operators to collaborate in combating illegal gambling sites.
The ‘Ethics on Display: Impact of Operator Logos on Sports Jerseys’ panel will delve into the ethical debate surrounding the presence of betting operators' logos on team jerseys. Expert speakers taking care ofsponsorships on the operator side, including Santiago Gandara (CMO, BetWarrior), Felipe Maturana (Digital Marketing Manager, Growe), and Carlos Sabanza (Sponsorships & PR Manager, Codere) will discuss the influence of gambling on sports and sports fans, with a particular focus on its impact on younger audiences. Moreover, the panel will provide effective solutions for stakeholders to better understand this ethical dilemma and make informed decisions while respecting the integrity of sports and their fans.
