(Bangkok).-Thailand takes a major step toward establishing a legal framework for its gaming industry as lawmakers introduce a new draft law aimed at regulating casinos and online gaming operations.

Thailand Introduces Draft Law to Regulate Its Growing Gaming Industry

Thailand is moving closer to legalizing and regulating its gaming industry with the introduction of a new draft law designed to establish a structured and transparent gaming market. The proposal, already endorsed by the Comptroller General’s Department and allocated funding from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), is expected to be submitted soon to the Cabinet for approval, according to Assist. Prof. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, president and CEO of the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (Depa).

The draft legislation outlines provisions for licensing, taxation, and player protection, aiming to ensure responsible gaming practices and prevent illegal gambling. Once enacted, it will empower the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau to suspend unregistered games and audit operators for compliance with safety and transparency standards.

If passed, the law could pave the way for integrated resorts and regulated casino complexes, attracting international tourists and boosting Thailand’s economy. Experts highlight that the move positions Thailand alongside other Asian markets such as Japan and the Philippines, which have recently modernized their gaming regulations.

This development signals a significant step in Thailand’s efforts to create a regulated, safe, and transparent gaming industry, offering opportunities for both investors and operators while protecting players and the broader public.
