(Michigan).- Online gaming posts strong year-over-year growth, while sports betting AGR drops nearly 40% month-on-month.
Michigan’s commercial and tribal operators generated a combined $356.3 million in internet gaming (iGaming) and online sports betting gross receipts in January 2026, marking a 10.9% decrease compared to December 2025, according to data released February 19.
iGaming Continues to Drive Revenue
January iGaming gross receipts reached $298.3 million, reinforcing its role as the primary revenue engine in the state. Meanwhile, online sports betting gross receipts totaled $58.0 million.
When adjusted gross receipts (AGR) are considered, combined January figures stood at $323.3 million, including:
$286.3 million from iGaming
$37.0 million from online sports betting
Month-over-month, iGaming AGR declined slightly by 3.5%, while sports betting AGR dropped significantly by 39.5%.
On a year-over-year basis, iGaming demonstrated strong momentum with a 22.8% increase, while online sports betting AGR fell 32.5%, reflecting ongoing volatility in the sports wagering segment.
Online Sports Betting Handle Slips
Michigan’s online sports betting handle totaled $491.3 million in January, representing a 4.2% decrease from December 2025.
State and Local Tax Contributions
Operators submitted $57.1 million in taxes and payments to the State of Michigan during January, broken down as follows:
iGaming taxes and fees: $54.6 million
Online sports betting taxes and fees: $2.5 million
The three Detroit casinos contributed $13.9 million in wagering taxes and municipal services fees to the Detroit, including:
iGaming taxes and fees: $13.1 million
Online sports betting taxes and fees: $767,575
In addition, tribal operators reported $7.0 million in payments to their respective governing bodies in January.
Market Outlook
Despite the monthly decline, Michigan’s iGaming sector continues to show sustained annual growth, offsetting sports betting fluctuations and underscoring the state’s position as one of the leading regulated online gaming markets in the United States.
